OUT NOW | Ilya Gringolts’ New CD: ‘Stravinsky: Music for Violin Volume 2’ [LISTEN]

BIS Records has this week announced the release of Russian violinist Ilya Gringolts‘ new album: Stravinsky: Music for Violin Volume 2.

Recorded with pianist Peter Laul, conductor Dima Slobodeniouk and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, the all-Igor Stravinsky violin disc includes the Suite Italienne, Divertimento, Elegie, Tango, Pastoral, Ballade and Apollon Musiagete – plus Stravinsky’s 1931 Violin Concerto in D.

“This second, and last volume, of Igor Stravinsky’s works for violin features pieces that I have grown up with, including his violin concerto …. plus some works that I have only discovered fairly recently … such as the beautifully spicy ‘Tango’ …” the 36-year-old former Paganini International Violin Competition 1st prize winner has said.

“I hope this disc helps to shed some new light on these wonderful, but somewhat forgotten Stravinsky works … as they don’t seem to have enjoyed as much attention as I believe they deserve,” he has said.
