Dima Slobodeniouk conducts the Tuba Concerto by Vaughan Williams

The Concertgebouworkest released a performance stream of Dima Slobodeniouk conducting Vaughan Williams’ Concerto for Bass Tuba and Orchestra with soloist Perry Hoogendijk.

Vaughan Williams’ work was the first concerto ever written for solo tuba, and first performed in 1954 by the London Symphony Orchestra and their principal tubist Philip Catelinet, whom it was written for. While it was first thought to be a peculiar idea of an aging composer, it soon became one of Vaughan William’s most popular works.

The live recording of the concert, which took place in April 2019 at the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, has been released on Apple Music already, and will be available on all other streaming platforms from 30 June 2023.
